About the event
Advocating for a child with disabilities is NOT easy and IS confusing.  It's just another way we get overloaded. On top of that, no matter what we do as parents, we always feel like we aren’t doing enough. It takes much more than gathering records, a medical diagnosis and facts to successfully advocate for your child. Advocating for your child is not as hard as you may think!  Remember KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!  This short hour and a half at the Work & Play will give you some big tools in your toolbox to begin the road to advocacy that produces results. Â
The three person panel includes:
- Misty Kluck : Misty is the owner / founder of the Work and Play Center as well as a well known special education advocate throughout Washtenaw County. Â She's is will hand some tools to you that will quickly change the tide of advocacy for you and your family. Â Â One tool will include "Administrative relationships: How to NOT advocate like a bull in a China shop and when to hire a special education advocate".
- Amy Sanderson : Amy is the Michigan Alliance representative for Washtenaw County. Â She's going to give you some information about effectively advocating within an IEP session.
- Andrea Bennick : Andrea has been advocating for everyone behind the scenes! Â She is your local WISD PAC president! Â What is PAC? Â Come find out! Â You should know this - and if you do not, don't feel bad... many don't ... but that tells us you might want to attend this.
Registration will open around mid-September. Â Seating will be limited. Â It will be offered to paying members first, then offered to the public.
